How Much Money Has Trump Made As President?

Financial disclosures show Donald Trump earned an estimated $2.2 billion during the first year of his second term — more than triple his reported income the year before — with roughly $1.4 billion of it coming from the family’s cryptocurrency ventures. A New Yorker analysis puts the family total at about $3.4 billion across his time in politics.

Where the money came from

The largest single component is crypto. The $TRUMP memecoin launched on 17 January 2025, three days before the inauguration, with 80% of its one-billion maximum supply controlled by Trump-affiliated entities. World Liberty Financial, which lists Trump as "co-founder emeritus" and his three sons as co-founders, issues the USD1 stablecoin — the vehicle Emirati state-backed MGX used to put $2 billion into Binance.

Real estate and licensing make up much of the rest. CREW counts 23 Trump-branded projects being planned, built or opened abroad during this presidency, across eleven countries. Foreign licensing income rose 650% in 2024.

Individual family members did well too. Forbes valued Eric Trump at about $40 million in November 2024 and roughly $400 million by December 2025 — a tenfold rise in about a year.

Is that unusual for a president?

Yes. Trump did not divest from his businesses on taking office, breaking with the practice of every other modern president, and declined to pledge divestment when asked directly in January 2024. The New York Times comparative analysis placed his disclosed earnings in a category more often associated with autocratic leaders than with US presidents.

Congress has held no hearings on the $2.2 billion. For scale, there were seven congressional investigations into Benghazi.

What about money from the government itself?

In January 2026 Trump, his two eldest sons and the Trump Organization sued the IRS and Treasury for at least $10 billion over the leak of his tax records. A judge dismissed the suit on 18 May 2026 and it settled the same day — an "anti-weaponization fund" of roughly $1.8 billion, created by order of the Acting Attorney General, plus blanket immunity from government suits.

Separately, Trump's lawyers have asked the Justice Department for about $230 million to settle claims over the Russia investigation and the Mar-a-Lago search. The officials who would decide include his own former defence counsel.
